Bush policies threaten our rights
LEVAR MICHAEL

A wise man once said, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” And fooling is just what the Bush administration has been trying to do to us for the last few years.
It’s time for people to come down off of their patriotic high and start paying attention to what’s been happening here at home. The administration would have us believe that our patriotic duties require us, as good Americans, to fall in line and support the president in a time of crisis, no matter what the situation. And that’s just what many of us have done. We’ve silenced ourselves; we’ve blinded ourselves; and we’ve muted our ears to the more vague, destructive and reprehensible nature of this administration. For all of you who still choose to defend this corrupted, misguided group of swindlers that call themselves an administration, here are some facts that might change your mind.

First, let’s talk about the environment. Have you noticed anything strange about our weather patterns lately? Well, the Environmental Protection Agency has. It has just issued a scientific study about global warming and its effect on weather patterns. You might be interested to know that the Bush administration admitted to purposely changing wording in the report to water down the EPA’s findings. I guess the fact that it rained nine times more this month in D.C. than it did in Seattle wasn’t enough to convince the president that something might be wrong. Bush also recently supported a bill allowing major logging of up to 20 million acres of federal land. This bill also eliminates environmental oversight of the land before the logging begins. And things here at home haven’t been peaches and cream either.

On the economic side of things, the administration has just passed its huge tax cut for the rich by which the top 1 percent of the country will receive more than half of the tax cut itself. And one little fact the president leaves out of his speeches made to the Armed Services is that those in the military who received “tax free combat pay” will not benefit from the Child Tax Credit because they didn’t make enough money. Did I also mention we’re giving away billions of dollars to people who don’t need it; our national debt continues to grow at the fastest rate ever recorded in the history of this country. On top of this, there are still 9 million Americans who are unemployed each day.

With all of this the administration is now supporting the Family Time Flexibility Act. This bill would literally give employers the right to offer time off instead of cash overtime payment. In other words, this bill would give employers the right not to pay their workers a cash overtime payment for time worked more than 40 hours a week.

As if this were not enough, the administration also continues to impede the rights of the American people by openly violating the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh amendments of the Constitution with unlawful legislation like the Patriot Act. And now with the deregulation of the airways, the FCC has made it possible for a handful of corporations to own all of what Americans see, hear and read. It would allow one company in a specific market to own all the media outlets in that sector.

This is wrong and it must be stopped. When will we as a people begin to open our hearts, minds and eyes to the deceptions that are taking place in our country each and every day? When will we begin to understand that this president and his administration have embraced policies that have not only been destructive but have crippled the minds and will of the masses?

We as Americans must never become complacent. We must always seek out new information; we must broaden our horizons and educate ourselves on topics that have the ability to change our lives. We must never give up the fight for peace, social justice and our God-given constitutional right to speak our minds. Take the time to write or call your local representatives and let them know that you don’t support these radical right-wing policies. Let them know that we refuse to stand on the sidelines and watch as this administration destroys this country. Never give up!

As much as I detest Bush, I can't help but point out some of the enormous liberal fallacies in this editorial.

Interesting, since the existence of global warming -- let alone it's possible causes and effects -- is not a generally agreed-upon premise in the scientific community. It makes for good press, but the rank psuedo-science that is used to back up most of the Chicken Little's arguments is laughable when held up to actual scientific research.

quote:
You might be interested to know that the Bush administration admitted to purposely changing wording in the report to water down the EPA’s findings.

Source please? That's a pretty strong accusation.

quote:
I guess the fact that it rained nine times more this month in D.C. than it did in Seattle wasn’t enough to convince the president that something might be wrong.

Well, it isn't enough to convince me, and I doubt it would convince my nine-year-old son or anyone else. A narrow scope of weather patterns (did it or did it not rain today?) over a miniscule period of time (30 days) in two narrowly-defined geographic areas is hardly what anyone with at least 10% of his brain north of his ass would consider "reasearch" or "evidence."

quote:
Bush also recently supported a bill allowing major logging of up to 20 million acres of federal land. This bill also eliminates environmental oversight of the land before the logging begins.

Two words for you: catastrophic wildfires. Enviromentalist interference in growth-clearing activities is a factor in the recent increase in catastrophic wildfires. With a thick, unculled undergrowth to feed them, the fires (which are mostly natural occurences) are spreading at rates far faster than those prior to Clinton-era anti-logging mandates.

Such a strange thing, enviromentalism. Trees and mosquitos and spotted owls are more important to them than human lives. Very strange. Of course, if it were their own lives or those of their children at stake, they might feel differently, but it isn't of course, so they don't.

quote:
On the economic side of things, the administration has just passed its huge tax cut for the rich by which the top 1 percent of the country will receive more than half of the tax cut itself.

Incorrect; would that it were. The rich need all the help they can get defending themselves against the media, the poor, the government, and all the other hands in their pockets who vilify them for no other reason than being successful. "They should pay more, because they can afford to," goes the mantra. Karl Marx must be grinning ear-to-ear from his grave.

quote:
And one little fact the president leaves out of his speeches made to the Armed Services is that those in the military who received “tax free combat pay” will not benefit from the Child Tax Credit because they didn’t make enough money.

Last I checked, there's no draft forcing people into the military. They want a better-paying job they should have stayed in school instead of signing up for surrogate phallus duty. If they were proper soldiers they wouldn't have families to start with; just one more pussy-fying of America trend to encourage those charged with defending our country to fill up their lives with distractions such as a wife and kids.

quote:
Did I also mention we’re giving away billions of dollars to people who don’t need it; our national debt continues to grow at the fastest rate ever recorded in the history of this country.

Although he doesn't say so, I presume the author has a problem with this. I do too. Nice that we can agree on something.

quote:
On top of this, there are still 9 million Americans who are unemployed each day.

Not Bush's fault, and not his job to fix. A great many of America's "unemployed" are just too proud to hustle McNuggets for chump change until they can improve their situation. Another sizable portions are career work-welfare cyclers who only work long enough to get right back on the dole for a few months. Carve those out of the equation, take the handful left aside and introduce them to the novel idea of working smarter, not harder and I guarantee you that those will find a way, whether through some sort of telecommuting, moving to a new job market, or via an entreprenuerial innovation in their lives. This is America -- the only unemployed people in this country simply haven't exhausted all options.

quote:
With all of this the administration is now supporting the Family Time Flexibility Act. Go to hell, you Socialist cocksucker. I wish I could be less eloquent on this point, but even I have standards.

There is a massive segment of the American economy on salary, people on commission, business owners, contract workers, etc. that would call a forty-hour week a vacation. The idea that a person should get a lollipop for working forty hours and one minute in a given work week is about the silliest, most counter-productive joke there is. It's the concession that the corrupt, Socialist labour movement in the US gives to those who earn above minimum wage, the other bullshit labour law.

quote:
As if this were not enough, the administration also continues to impede the rights of the American people by openly violating the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh amendments of the Constitution with unlawful legislation like the Patriot Act.

Again, I find myself in agreement with the author, but I really feel that I must point out here that in order to effect and enforce most of the "progress" he seems to espouse, an equally tyrannical regime would have to be put in place of the current one. Sure, it would be "for the good of the people" but isn't that the mantra of the current one as well?

quote:
And now with the deregulation of the airways, the FCC has made it possible for a handful of corporations to own all of what Americans see, hear and read. It would allow one company in a specific market to own all the media outlets in that sector.

Like most other legislation that bears the misnomer, there has been no "deregulation" of the airwaves. Only "re-regulation." If consumers don't like a given media outlet, they can simply refuse to patronise it, even if it has a government-sanctioned monopoly on a given market. People don't have a "right" to news, but those who seek it out have a right to get it wherever it is available.

quote:
When will we as a people begin to open our hearts, minds and eyes to the deceptions that are taking place in our country each and every day? When will we begin to understand that this president and his administration have embraced policies that have not only been destructive but have crippled the minds and will of the masses?

I respectfully submit that the author's vision of Utopia is just as -- if not more -- disturbing as President Bush's.

quote:
We must never give up the fight for peace

Spoken like a true Bushie!

quote:
social justice

No such thing.

quote:
...and our God-given constitutional right to speak our minds.

Also, no such thing. Rights are rights, they aren't handed down by God or the government or anyone else.

quote:
Take the time to write or call your local representatives and let them know that you don’t support these radical right-wing policies. And what, pressure them to adopt the left-wing crap above instead, and destroy our country in that manner? Have we fallen so far that the only self-determination we have remaining in America is the right to decide how we finally fvck it all up once and for all?
